PROFESSOR ERMOS NICOLAOU

FCOG (SA), MD, Dip Fet Med (UK)

Professor Nicolaou is the Head of the Wits Maternal Fetal Medicine Centre, University of the Witwatersrand and Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. He is a Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, and Sub specialist in Maternal and Fetal Medicine.

Professor Nicolaou was a previous chairman of the Maternal Fetal Society of South Africa. He is a member of the Executive Committee and treasurer of the South African Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (SASUOG), member of the executive committee of the South African Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (SASOG), member of the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ISUOG) and Fellow of the Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF-UK).

He is an examiner for the FCOG specialist examinations and the Certificate in Maternal and Fetal Medicine sub specialist examinations with the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa.

Professor Nicolaou’s special interests include antenatal screening for chromosomal abnormalities and high risk obstetric cases with emphasis on Doppler Ultrasonography and Intra Uterine Growth Restriction.

SR. SHARRON BISTER

RN, RM, RPN, RCN

Sister Sharron Bister is the Sister-in-Charge of the WITS Maternal and Fetal Medicine Centre since 2008.

She worked at Johannesburg General Hospital for 10 years in the Antenatal Clinic, and was Sister-in-Charge of the Netcare Sunninghill Stork’s Nest (Well Baby Clinic) for 2 years.
